Hi Besties! It’s Venus again, and I’m back with some more tips to help you regain calm in your space.

Spring is here, and many of you are trying to get your space organized for spring cleaning. As Augusta GA's premier luxury professional organizer, I bring over 40 years of experience helping clients create functional, beautiful spaces.

In this blog, I'm excited to share four of my favorite organizing tips to help you tackle those problem areas in your home and make your spring cleaning organization more efficient! These are the same strategies I use with my clients to create systems that improve their quality of life and bring peace of mind to their homes.

1. Create Drop Stations for Everyday Items

We've all been in situations where we're looking for our keys, trying to get out the door. Maybe you're rushing to work and trying to grab something to eat, but just can't find your keys.

Later on, you find them under a piece of mail or another piece of paper. This is such a common problem that affects so many of our daily lives!

One solution I absolutely love implementing in homes is what I call a "drop station." When you come in the house, what do you do? You empty your pockets, take off your badge if you're a healthcare or office worker, and throw your keys down.

To help you avoid fumbling and looking all over, create a drop station at your point of entry and exit where you can put everything. It doesn't have to be a wicker basket—it can be anything that helps create a clutter-free space for your essentials, such as an aesthetic jewelry tray

This simple solution is one of my favorite home organization tips that makes a huge difference in maintaining a well-organized space with minimal effort.

2. Manage Electronic Cords with Charging Stations

If you're like most people, you probably have an iPhone, iPad, or other devices and are always losing the cords, constantly having to buy replacements only to find the original ones later. This is where organizing products can make a real difference in your home.

A charging station is the perfect solution for corralling all those electronic necessities. Look for one with built-in cord management that allows you to hide messy cables while keeping everything accessible. Place a charging strip inside, arrange your cords neatly, and you can charge your iPad, phone, and other devices all in one spot.

The beauty of a proper charging station is that it keeps everything together and organized. Plus, when guests ask if you have a charger (and they always do!), you'll know exactly where to direct them.

Professional organizers like me love to implement this type of functional space solution during organizing projects.

3. Follow The Two-to-Three Touch Rule

One of my signature organizing systems (that I'm actually considering writing a book about) is what I call the "two-to-three touch rule." This decluttering method is all about efficiency and intention when handling your current belongings.

The principle is simple: you should only touch an item one to three times maximum before it reaches its final destination. Let's take laundry as an example of how this works:

  • First touch: Taking clothes out of the dryer
  • Second touch: Folding the items
  • Third touch: Putting them away in their proper place

How many of us actually follow this pattern?

Most people end up moving the laundry basket from place to place, touching the clothes multiple times without completing the process. As an expert laundry room organizer, I can tell you that implementing this rule in your laundry room organization system can save you hours each week.

My rule is simple: if you have to touch something more than three times, you've lost the battle. It's all about intention and being deliberate whenever you handle something.

You should make a decision right then about what you're going to do with it and follow through immediately. This approach works for everything from mail to groceries to your unwanted belongings that need to be donated.

You can maintain the two-to-three touch rule even with babies and children in the house! I've raised four children using this method, and it's been an absolute game-changer for our family's organizational skills. Using laundry room organization baskets with clear labels for each family member can make this process even more streamlined.

4. When in Doubt, Let a Professional Organizer Help You Out

Many clients come to me for professional home organizing services when they feel overwhelmed by specific areas in their homes. One older project that illustrates the power of good organizing services was a walk-in pantry transformation for a client who actually found me through one of my previous TV appearances.

This client had many lovely entertaining pieces along with everyday necessities. Her family includes sons involved in different sports and activities like golf.

During our organizing consultation, we identified that she needed a system that would both showcase her beautiful items (like charcuterie boards and special serveware) while also creating functional storage for daily items.

We transformed the space into something both beautiful and practical. Now, family members can easily locate water bottles, snacks, and other essentials in the morning and quickly grab what they need on their way out.

It’s also really aesthetically pleasing, thanks to the pantry decor we installed. Everything has a designated place and is clearly labeled in pantry organization bins, pantry organization baskets, and containers for organizing pantry—all major parts of effective professional organizing and interior decorating.

Why Professional Organization Works

What many people don't realize is that professional home organizer services go far beyond just making spaces look pretty. The organization process involves understanding how you use your space, what's not working, and creating customized solutions that align with your lifestyle.

When working with clients, I focus on creating systems that are:

  • Intuitive and easy to maintain
  • Visually appealing so you're motivated to keep them up
  • Functional for your specific needs and habits
  • Designed to maximize your functional living spaces

Unlike a typical cleaning service that focuses on actual cleaning, professional organizers address the underlying systems that lead to clutter and disorganization in the first place. We help you manage your extra belongings, create logical homes for items, and establish routines that prevent the need for frequent deep cleaning.

Making Spring Cleaning Organization as Easy as 1-2-3

As spring arrives, it's the perfect time to implement these spring cleaning organization strategies in your home. Start with one small area—perhaps that troublesome entry where keys disappear, or your laundry room that never seems to stay organized.

Remember that organizing isn't about perfection—it's about creating systems that work for you and your family. The goal is to reduce stress and bring a higher level of peace to your daily routine through thoughtful organization.

Whether you tackle these projects yourself or bring in cleaning experts for assistance, focusing on creating systems rather than just tidying up will yield longer-lasting results. Your future self will thank you when you can find what you need quickly, complete tasks efficiently, and enjoy a home that supports rather than hinders your lifestyle.
